A significant issue for the students at Cornfield
is finding a suitable, safe space where they can
relax and calm themselves ready for their next
lesson.
During the Summer of 2018 a grant from the
National Lottery funding enabled us to turn a
little used room into a sensory room
incorporating amazing coloured bubble tubes,
calming music and moving images
as well as soft seating and fidget objects.
Although the room has only been open since September
it is already having an impact on the time it takes the
boys to be ready to return to their classes.
The moving images, such as the whales or the forest,
can be changed to suit the emotions of the moment,
helping the whole process.
Many of the installations have an interactive element,
the light panel for example has big buttons which mean
you can change the colours, patterns and intensity of the
lights to help adjust your mood.
The room is fitted with cushioned flooring and seating
so that complete relaxation is easy and safe.
We are extremely grateful to the National Lottery!
