The School Council elected a group of spokesmen, a sub-committe, to rewrite the school’s anti-bullying policy and to put into place a range of strategies and systems to monitor and manage bullying. The systems included skills sessions for the bullies and the victims, with reconcilliation meetings and targets.
As their project was such a big under-taking, they were put forward for an award. This meant meeting an adjudicator and explaining how their system would work. This meeting was challenging but successful and the boys earned the BIG Award from the Bullying Intervention Group!
Their system is now in operation and is begining to have the effect they wanted: there is less bullying, everyone has a voice and can report their concerns, knowing that they wil be taken seriously and that something will be done to support them and everyone else involved.
