In preparation students complete a Health and Safety qualification, look at the interview process and plan their journeys to work. Each student is fully supported in attending a pre-work placement interview, in organising their PPE, in actually getting to work and in completing tasks at the placement.
In Year 10 there are three weeks set aside for work experience during which students will develop their understanding of the working environment, see what each workplace is really like and develop their independent skills. Students are encouraged to try different placements on each occasion.
Year 11 sees two more opportunities for the majority of students due to the examinations although some students will continue to develop along a vocational route and may be offered the chance to continue with an extended work placement.
The range of placements available is extensive, currently including garages, cafes, shops, a computer repair business, schools, fishing ponds, kennels and libraries.
